Position Overview:
The Radiation Therapist provides direct treatment to oncology patients under the direction of a radiation oncologist. The role is responsible for accurately delivering radiation therapy, completing CT simulations, positioning patients, creating immobilization devices, documenting treatment plans, and maintaining strict radiation safety and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver prescribed radiation treatments and verify patient identity, treatment area, dosage, and positioning.
- Complete CT simulations for 2-D, 3-D, and IMRT treatment plans.
- Prepare treatment rooms, equipment, immobilization devices, and radiation protection materials.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment and respond appropriately to adverse reactions or emergencies.
- Educate patients on treatment procedures, side effects, and care of radiated areas.
- Maintain accurate electronic treatment records, imaging, dosage documentation, and billing charges.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and other support professionals.
- Support brachytherapy procedures, treatment scheduling, daily quality assurance, and student instruction.
- Participate in on-call coverage, shift work, and mandatory overtime when required.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
- Active registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification before completing orientation.
- Ability to position patients and equipment with a high degree of precision and reproduce treatment setups consistently.
- Strong patient communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
